SINOPSIS

La propuesta a desarrollar por Carlos León-Xjiménez, busca reubicar primero, obra plástica desarrollada en los últimos 15 años, organizada bajo un proceso de exhumación, ordenamiento y reedición de obra ya existente; a la par de desarrollar obra nueva a partir de la deconstrucción y sampling de sus metodologías visuales y conceptos.

Esta suerte de exhumación y puesta en escena, se vale de métodos de la arqueología, antropología y arquitectura; así como del activismo y la mediación, entre otros. A partir de maquetas y modelos, deconstrucciones de símbolos, dibujos, gráfica y video, busca tematizar una sensación permanente de precariedad y arruinamiento –desde la transformación permanente e inexorable, pero también entendiendo la ruina como un producto social.

Entre las obras, una instalación lumínica, grabados, fotografía y video, se alternan en espacios que van mutando. Las obras se centran en interpretaciones sobre patrimonio y paisaje cultural en varios registros. La permanente presencia de tela camuflada militar refuerza el concepto de estrategia, guerra y conflicto.

Carlos León-Xjiménez (Lima, Perú. 1970)

artista visual y curador independiente. Se graduó en antropología en la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (Lima, 2002), y realizó una maestría de arte en espacios públicos por la Bauhaus-Universität (Weimar, 2009), donde realiza actualmente el doctorado en Patrimonio Urbano en la facultad de Arquitectura.

Sus proyectos se enfocan en las temáticas de memoria, urbanismo, migración, patrimonio cultural, género y espacios públicos.

Ha realizado diferentes proyectos de arte individuales enfocados en intervenciones públicas, instalaciones y performances en Perú, Alemania, Brasil y Colombia. Además ha participado en diversos proyectos y exposiciones colectivas desde 1994.

Entre sus proyectos personales se encuentran “Extensión MAC” realizado con Rodrigo Derteano (instalación, Bogota 2013), “Árbol” (intervención urbana, Lima 2009), “Stattfinden” (instalación y diálogo, Weimar 2009), “Precarious Institute for Survival Economical Strategies” (intervención urbana, Berlin 2006)
Entre los colectivos artísticos en los que ha participado, se encuentran, Process Institute (Berlin, 2010 al presente), Tupac*Caput (Lima, 2001-2002) quienes junto a Rogelio Lopez Cuenca, presentaron “LIMA I(NN) MEMORIAM” en la III Bienal Iberoamericana de Lima (2002), y Perufábrica (Lima, 2002)

Su experiencia curatorial, se centra principalmente en las exhibiciones “Lima Rooftop Ecology” (Lima, 2012) dentro del programa Franchise de ApexArt; “Héroes y heroínas” (Lima, 2004) en el Centro Cultural de Bellas Artes, “Remate de Saldos” con el Centro de Arte EGO + CCE en Tacora (Lima, 2003), y la sala permanente de arte contemporáneo del Museo de Arte del Centro Cultural de San Marcos (Lima 2002)

Es profesor universitario del Departamento de Ciencias Sociales en la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, habiendo dictado en la facultad de Arte y en la escuela de arte Corriente Alterna, desde el 2012. Ha desarrollado talleres y cursos interdisiciplinarios enfocados en ciudad y espacios públicos: el 2002 en el Centro Cultural de San Marcos y el 2009 en Sala 1042 para el Centro Cultural de España, talleres enfocados en los techos del Centro Histórico de Lima y su potencial para intervenciones artísticas. El 2011, un seminario-laboratorio en conjunto con el artista Sergio Zevallos enfocado en ciudad y performance, coproducido por le Centro Cultural de España. El 2015, un curso en el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, enfocado en espacios públicos desde las interpelaciones de lo social entre arte contemporáneo y arquitectura.

Ha escrito sobre arte para la prensa, primero en publicaciones independientes como el fanzine ArtoArte, luego en el suplemento Domingo del diario La República (1994-1995), en la sección cultural del diario El Sol (1996), y en el suplemento Universo del diario La Industria de Chiclayo (1997-1999). Luego en la revista ArtMotiv como corresponsal desde Europa enfocado en arte peruano contemporáneo. Asi mismo en textos de catálogos de exposiciones. Textos suyos se encuentran en INCA (Investigación Nacional en Crítica de Arte), Academia.edu, y su página de publicaciones en el portafolio web personal.

Obra suya se encuentra en el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Bogotá.
Vive y trabaja en Madrid, Berlín y Lima.
